Grubb cottage in the rain

Grubb cottage - Lyttelton

Mr John Grubb was one of the earliest residents of Lyttelton. he was born at Tayport, Fifeshire, Scotland in 1817. He trained as a shipwright and gained his mates certificate. He was a ships carpenter on the General Palmer when that vessel, on a journey from Melbourne to London in 1847, put into Wellington in a leaky condition, and was there condemned.

Red Zone

It seems that although there is a sign on Gloucester Street saying no public access apart from people with CERA passes it is in fact only certain parts which are restricted. This means that you can now walk or drive through the middle of the red zone. Today was the first time I have seen the cathedral in its post earthquake state. So sad & quite emotional...

Avondale

Here are some photos  taken in Avondale today – look at the size of the potholes!  Loads of sections on the street I was visiting were already cleared. The street looked pretty unloved and desolate – difficult for those who remain I guess…

Holiday Inn falls

Waiting for Prince Charles at Cashel Mall on the 16th - the buildings kept coming down despite HRH being in the CBD!... I think this might be the Holiday Inn but as I am new to Chch I'm not sure.
